After my normal printer died and I wanted to start archiving my digital art I looked into this. People always recommended Canon but after seeing the price and how often they break I switched to photo printers. If you only use A4 and smaller I can recommend the Epson XP series. I have the 7100. The original ink is expensive but the model is cheap. It can print on CDs and every kind of paper I own. I shoved 300gsm water colour paper into this thing and I works. they don't recommend it though. Also it has photo black. A true black that is darker then the normal printer one. I use knock-off ink and it still looks amazing. One thing though is that it's ink and not laser. So everything you print can smear. Plus never update the printer software. It can make the ink stop working.

In general, canon and epson are good. HP literally stopped making home use ones. Be sure to consider if you need a wide format one (for poster larger than letter size) and if you have a place to get ink easily. I have a local place for ink incase I run out, online stores are more likely to have sales but they could be slower.
In general if you can find artist alley reviews, they'll know better than say, a photographer or someone printing photos at home
