Tell me your folklore! I'm making a story with monsters but I don't want to use the same old ones, I'd like to have creatures that people usually never heard, so, you can comment names of creatures from your folklore or something like that. I'm trying to search on my own but I only find "werewolves, unicorns" or kinda silly ones (like the terrifying fish-goat), so, if you know a cool creature that never gets attention, comment hereApr 11, 2021

They're not really a creature but more of like a personification of a superstition in my place.
Whenever one would acknowledge a certain trait of a person , animal or anything, these remarks get carried of by the wind to the ears of these spirits or entities. They will then try to apply the opposite conditions to the thing being subjected to these remarks, may it be compliments or insults. For example, if person A said "Your face looks so smooth" to person B, the spirit would then make person B's face look bumpy and full of scars or when person A would say "Their business doesn't seem to be doing well. Why did they even start this in the first place?", the said business would then suddenly prosper.
They are really just chaotic entities wanting to mess with people and make people be wary of their words towards others (which i think is quite helpful considering lots of people gossip in my place). In order to avoid your words reaching the ears of such entities, you have to say a certain word after your sentence. They dont really have a name but I hope this helps.

•Well we do have Nisser in Denmark. Now days they are seen as Santa's jolly helpers but they uses to be very tempermental magical creatures and you needed their permission to build a farm. If they asked for daily porridge it was considered a good deal and they will protect the farm, if you screw up that deal however, oh boy they would pour tar on you or kill all your animals. Also if you moved from a nisse they would follow you. :')
We also have elves in our folklore but not the tolkien kind. They had hollow backs and were found to lure people to their death. H.C.Anderson wrote a fairytale about them.
Perhaps still rather common creatures but I usually only see modern takes on them.
I have to say most of what I can think of is often used in fiction but rarely in the more old fashion way

•You can always choose a random country and Google it's folklore;
japanese Folklore has a ton of intewresting yokai (spirit/monsters). Yokai.com is a pretty Handy website , it's got a crapton of them to look through
I Personally adore celtic folklore, like kelpies (water-horse), the Dobhar-chu (a dog-Otter creature thst feeds on human flesh) or the Oilliphéist (a dragon-like river monster)

•"The Wog" is a large dog-like creature that guards a volcano to hell, it's a part of the state of Georgia's native folklore. I personally find it pretty cool.
