Avatars from Another Mother
As i mentioned on a previous post, i've recently become a James Cameron's Avatar fan, and even though it is a pretty flawed and ambitious movie, I personally dont feel as strongly about its faults as a lot of other people do. Like, I can def see where they're coming from, but I dont think they're THAT problematic for me. Is it a blatant colonialism story? Yes. Could the dialogue have been improved? Perhaps. Could've the Na'vi been better designed than just tall blue feline humanoids? Yeah. Are the characters really as forgetable as everyone says? I don't necessarily think so. Are the upcoming sequels made for money? Yeah they are. Do I still find legit enjoyment from this movie and looking forward to said sequels? Absolutely.That said, I do think people need to chill about it. One example of this is how i've been scrolling through Deviantart for Avatar fanart and a good chunk involve either Aang or Korra being antagonistic to the Na'vi while saying that "they came first" and while i'm not that into ATLA I am very into crossovers so i'm like "can't we appreciate both Avatars equally?"
Plus Aang is known for being a pacifist so he'd be down with hanging out with the blue cat people. So yeah, I doodled him chilling with Jake Sully. I might do more Avatar crossover stuff later on. I had a lot of fun doing this.May 30, 2021
