The devs said that checkmarks are given to people who are at risk of getting impersonated so that users can identify the real account. These are mostly big and well-known artists, but I think even someone with a small following could receive one if they're part of that risk group for whatever reason.
There's also the accounts of the two devs and the official Artfol account, again they have those checkmarks to verify that they're the real devs.

1 is Artfol’s account
1 is a developer
2 look like artists who help with promoting Artfol?
So that’s why I think it only goes to people who work for Artfol!
