What are some good Spanish speaking movies and tv shows? I’m trying to learn the Spanish language (again). I thought that might be the most fun way and to improve at understanding people speaking it naturally and also give me new media to watch.
Also open to any tips or advice for self learning. I do have a basis from classes in high school but it’s limited, rusty knowledge. I can -usually- get the gist from text written in Spanish but hearing it spoken fluently is harder to decipher at this point. And even harder to speak or write in it myself.Feb 24, 2025

I would say, a funny puppet show could be 31 minutos, this playlist has the English sub episodes, but it doesn't have all

Another kinda funny movie is "La odisea de los giles" is about vengeance from a scam. And then more serious or dark movies would be "Relatos salvajes" a collection of life stories of the people's breaking point , and "Argentina 1985" warning! If you aren't into more dark themes, this isn't for you, is about trying to get the responsables for a militar dictatorship into justice, there is mentions of kidnapping and killing (this is about the real dictatorship from Argentina).
Apart from those recommendations, the playlist left by Cab is useful too, I don't know what genre of music you like, but there is for sure a Spanish band that most fall into it, the other comments say most of it, you should interact more with the media, or the dub of shows you already know about. Ah and, a good YouTube channel that I think speaks clearly, kinda calm, and is about more essays? "El último Tvnauta".

•Personally I don't have much to add to the tips you were already given, but I will give you tips that did help me when I was learning English in school:
• Watch videos. ANY video. Doesn't matter if you don't understand anything, the point is getting familiarized with the sounds, that way it'll be easier to recognize words. Also, use subtitles in Spanish so you can connect the sound to the written word
• Increase your exposure to the Spanish language. Join online communities in Spanish, even better if it's fandom spaces, since it'll at least be related to something you're interested in. Also, try posting in Spanish, just to practice expressing your ideas in another language and maybe converse with Spanish speakers

This isn't something I personally did, but a friend has. Change your phone's language to Spanish. You can also try to do that with apps (like Twitter, it has the option to choose a language so you'll be shown posts in that chosen language. I don't know other platforms that do that tho)

- I find the Latin American dub of animated shows and movies to be good! So if there's any cartoon you'd like to re-watch or haven't seen, I'd recommend that
- The same goes for anime, if you like it! The Latin American dub for Ranma 1/2 and Inazuma is really charming
- Movies from Spain can be so good! I haven't seen many, but I'd recommend "El Hoyo" and "Elisa y Marcela"
- I also recently got recommended the series "Veneno" (from Spain). I haven't seen it, but they say it's a good story based in the experience of a real trans woman
- If you like old movies, Mexico excels at that! I'd recommend "Los olvidados", or any movie from El Cantinflas if you like old comedies

•I'm in the same boat, I really want to consume more Spanish media to continue learning the language... I tried watching Violetta with the original audio once, but I only got through 2 episodes :') it's a nice show though because it also has a bunch of songs, and like other people have commented songs are a great way to learn a language as well, since you listen to them repeatedly and are likely to remember words ans structures from lyrics. I still really love listening to these songs. Violetta was one of the reasons I started learning Spanish to begin with
