Pumpkin

I'm asking for other artists to give me some constructive criticisms. Maybe there's something I could improve weather it's the value or composistion.

This drawing of a pumpkin I draw from an actual photo.

Hey there, so where do we start, there are multiple errors.

1) do not use the color at all it makes absolutely no sense where you put it and the color is off ( if you want to make a study in color get a reference with colors)

2)the ground is very disturbing the main subject ( pumpkin) notice how the "grass" have sharp edges and the pumpkin is blurry, this makes it so that the background and foreground steals the attention from the pumpkin ( always make the the subject you want to viewer focus on sharper the the rest and the less important or further away is something make it for example less detailed, colors more saturated, etc

3) for the love of God don't use grass brushes, seriously,... First you learn absolutely nothing using them and second it look terrible, notice how the stamp of the grass brush is the same in the front and in the background (this absolutely destroys your perspective and sense of space especially when the background is sharper than the subject and when the grass is the same size as foreground it makes it grow larger and larger the further you make it in the distance

4)notice how the darkest shadows are usually under the object yet your values under the pumpkin are more bright than the surface of it above it this breaks the immersion that it is placed on the ground

5)notice the directions of all light sources, I would recommend to draw on the photo arrows and numbers for each light source and the direction of it it helps you understand how it works ( ussualy start with a mid grey and make parts lighter or darker but always compare the tones to each other like is this part darker or lighter than the other

That's pretty much it, keep practicing and you will get there, it's just about the milage 😊

It’s a little rough around the edges. Values look good it’s just lacking detail
