I hate it that just about everyone in my family tells me to just "get over" my phobia.

Like- ok I'll just stop being scared. I'm totally able to just flick a switch in my brain to cure my phobia 🧍‍♂️thanks for the advice Sis + Mom!

Ugh. I hate it when people say that. If it's so easy to just "turn off" your fear, then this wouldn't be an issue in the first place. It's, unfortunately, not that simple.
Ugh, that pisses me off so bad. I have a few odd phobias and it boggles my mind that people think I have any semblance of control over my phobias. They're called IRRATIONAL FEARS for a reason. If you're comfortable sharing, what phobia is this post referring to?
I remember telling someone I have trypophobia and someone else chimed in and was like “oh I used to have it but not anymore, I only had it during my childhood” like 💀 I still get affected by it and I don’t think it’s going away soon. Honestly though, wish you didn’t have to go through that, thinking that mental stuff can just “go away” is so weird to me and I don’t get how people think that way
“If you just stay still it will go away”

I have the WORST fear of bees I will actually cry, if a bee flies in my general direction we will have a problem there is no “stand still”
The mentality of "Your fine or just don't feel that way" is one of the worst mentalities ever I swear! I'm so sorry :<
my family is the same w my hemophobia if I go to the doctor to get shots or a finger prick and get scared and start crying and hyperventilating and shaking they're like "aren't you a little old to be passing out over seeing blood?? can you just stop doing that and get over it already" ....no. I can't. believe me I would love to but that's not how it works 💀
Ugh, I HATE that. That and people telling you that “there’s no reason to be scared.” Like yeah! There isn’t! That’s why it’s a phobia, it’s irrational! You can’t just stop being scared
