I was todays years old when I figured out that u actually have to prepare nibs for inking by cleaning them... Cause they come with a protective oil coating

Yes! I only found out after reading the manual that came with a cheap set for fun to see if there was anything ridiculous in there - hubris it seems ^-^"
Acetone or nailpolish remover worked really well for me for the nib cleaning. I've also heard of passing the nibs through a flame as a way to deal with that.
