It can depend on the person & (supposedly) depends on the type of onion. People are grown, not molded, so everyone’s gonna be a bit different with these sort of things!
From what I can tell, onions DO NOT make you cry, they make your eyes burn EXTREMELY bad, causing them to excessively water, but not to the point you’re crying or sobbing in pain.
Additionally, you do not need to cut the onion yourself to experience this. For some people, just standing several feet away from someone cutting up an onion is enough to trigger a reaction. Think of it sort of like an allergic reaction, some people can’t be in the same room as an open jar of peanut butter or a cat because they’re just SUPER SENSITIVE to that thing.

It can really depend on the freshness of the onion or the type of onion I guess. Onions I buy at the store never make me cry. But then I cut one from my grandparents' garden and I go AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

•a fresh onion will an older onion wont. your onions are still safe to eat but are reaching the experation date.

•I think it depends on the person, where your at (like a room with an open window for ventilation might help) and the type of onion. My mom always lights candles to burn off there fumes so she doesn’t cry but I’ve never cut an onion so I wouldn’t know from personal experience.
