Rudolf O'Murphy
Captain Rudolf (Rudy) O'Murphy of the Krakjen. The second captain. "The Fire Witch", as so named by the public. He was born in 1773, shortly before reaching Amerika as an infant with his Scottish father and Irish mother.
Rudy was raised to be a sailor, and a whaler. In his youth, multiple unfortunate incidents with fire, along with his flaming complexion, would earn him the loathed nickname.
He adopted his father's skill with carving wood, as well, but that career would fall to his younger brother, Charles. Rudy was born to sail. He served as first mate to his father for many years, taking a small break around 1794 to raise his daughter Edith.
Edith would meet a gruesome end only 6 years later, which caused Rudy to fall into a rampage. This disaster was the product of superstition surrounding his nickname, and his rampage would only worsen the town's image of him.
It was only through the birth of his nephew, Gerad, that Rudy would find a new purpose in his life. Nineteen years later, Rudy would witness his father fall victim to the jaws of a whale, and soon after, would lose Gerad to a winter storm as he sailed home with the grim news.
Months later, Gerad, presumed dead, would reappear, but with scars that would torment Rudy (who blamed himself for not stopping Gerad from his anger) for the rest of his life.
Rudy retired early and turned the Krakjen over to Gerad once he knew his nephew could sail without him.
Rudy's long life came to an end at a ripe age of 70 or more, in a battle with sickness.
Rudy is remembered by the town as a reserved man with a dark past. Many respect him, but some do still harbor a grudge against the man rumored to have raised his nephew from the frozen grave.Jun 8, 2025
