Left Instagram and Facebook because they're run by bigots
I usually try to avoid the term bigots because it seems a lil extra heavy, but this one it's justified I feel
TW: Rant about people who are racist, homophobic, and transphobic
For context, they've proven themselves to be very transphobic and homophobic, actively taking down accounts they find if they contain their gender identity or orientation in their description, labeling it as "political propaganda" and whatnot. I'm trans, and panromantic, so that gave me the ick very heavily and already made me feel unsafe.
But I stayed because my mom managed to convince me that I needed it to get enough of a following to receive commissions at all (link in bio btw if you're interested, no pressure tho as that's not the point I'm making). She'd also hit me with the "don't let the haters win" even when I told her how it made me view social media almost completely negatively, something I rarely felt before I joined Instagram and Facebook
But the final straw that made me abandon Meta as a company (except for the bare minimum to communicate with certain people) and delete both my Instagram account and main FB account, was the fact that Meta took down a content creators post because it portrayed a black character. Their report to the creator claimed it violated some guideline about portraying "harmful and dangerous individuals". THAT IS FUCKING DISGUSTING
The art was in no way harmful, in no way dangerous or offensive or any of the sort. It was merely a character in a neutral pose who happened to be black. And they took it down and claimed it violated their guidelines based on a very harmful stereotype. I want to say I can't believe people like that exist, but the disheartening truth is I've come to expect the worst from humanity to the point that this genuinely doesn't surprise me because I've seen and read and experienced some horrible shit.
And the truth is that the modern world has conditioned me to believe there's no hope for humanity. This is not the only reason, just an example of the much larger picture of what shaped how I view humanity. This doesn't mean I don't recognize there is the occasional good person, I've just seen and experienced enough in only 19 years of age that I genuinely see the worst parts of humanity because that's most of what I've seen and experienced. I have the PTSD diagnosis to prove it.
Anyways got a lil sidetracked but yeah Meta is bullshit and run by the scum of the Earth, so I left because I don't tolerate that shit
Oh yeah and there's so much more on the Meta is shit icebergMay 17, 2026
