Practice my shading :D
So I wanted to practice my shading but I feel like I’m missing a few techniques that could make it better. I would love some few tips and tricks on how to make my shading better.May 28, 2021Comments
I would say the colors you chose for shading are very nice though it can get a bit complicated when you focus on hue shifts as opposed to light/dark contrast. Always try to recognize light sources before coloring, which in this case looks like upper right. I actually think you could have gone a bit simpler with the shadows on the hair on the lower left of the hair and colored more portions darker.i feel like the pink highlights should either go the full ring or middle part should be erased as it looks odd when it's broken up like that. The forehead could use some shading as well under the bangs and the eyes could use a darker shadow for more contrast to draw focus. The collar bones have a bit too much contrast in lighting which kinda makes them stick out a lot. IRL the upper lip usually casts a slight shadow making it slightly darker than the bottom, I think in this drawing there needs to be harder definition of the lips since it's kinda blending into the skin. Not a shading critique but the top part of her head and her eyes are kind skewed to upper left, flipping the canvas horizontally in the sketching phase can help recognize mistakes like that
