SoniakaDTIYS (DTIYS Entry)

I did another digital art piece once again! This time, it’s for a DrawThisInYourStyle challenge hosted by Soniakasart. I thought it would be a fun way to practise and also one of my little baby steps into learning how to draw in a kidlit style. I’ve always wanted to try this soft, storybook-like way of drawing, and I’m slowly learning how to make my characters look more childlike, warm, and cheerful.

For this challenge, I drew a cute little girl enjoying her time at the beach. She has short, bright red-orange hair with a yellow flower clip tucked to the side. She’s smiling sweetly and holding a watermelon-shaped ice lolly in one hand. Her outfit is very summery—a frilly blue-and-white off-shoulder top, a green skirt, and yellow flip-flops. She’s also carrying a pineapple-patterned sling bag and has a big red scrunchie on her wrist.

She’s walking happily across soft sand, where there’s a small sandcastle and a green shovel behind her. The background is filled with soft pastel bubbles and sparkles, giving the whole image a dreamy and playful feeling—just like a picture from a children's book.

The artwork turned out fine, and I’m proud of it for now. But since I’m still just starting with this kidlit style, I know there are things I need to improve next time. I want to work more on getting proportions and gestures more natural for child characters, and I also want to play around with softer shading and textures that match this gentle style better.

Still, I enjoyed the process a lot and it made me feel like I’m one step closer to the kind of art I really want to create.
