Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children I remember seeing a trailer for it when it first came out and wow- from what I remember I think they tried (horribly) to condense a whole series into a 2 hour movie..- along with changing characters which was confusing

It has to be The spiderwick chronicles, they took 5 books and turned them into 1 film, so much was missed and the ending of the movie was super different to the last book. They met so many creatures in the books like elves for example. There was enough content for multiple movies but they chose not too.
Sorry this was so long but This was my favourite book as a child and for years I’d only caught the last few seconds of the movie but when I finally got to see the whole thing I was very disappointed, only a few events in the movie actually happened in the books.

Tales of Earthsea by Studio Ghibli. I love Ghibli films, but this one was nowhere close to the source material

Vampire Academy. The book series is really good but the movie is trash. I almost feels like no one on set read the book and just got the cliff notes version off Google.

Eragon. It was clearly made because the books were popular, and it was post lotr. Like, they so badly wanted a new fantasy epic to draw people to the theatres.
Despite it being a 4 book series, there was no room at the end of the film to actually make a sequel. One of the most interesting characters got reduced to "mystic lady who tells a fortune" and just... Whatever the hell the growth sequence was for Saphira. Were going to skip the entire struggle to secretly have a dragon growing up by... Making her grow 20 times her size while flying. Okay.
Thing is, this could have been good. It could still be good. The inheritance cycle has some issues as a story, but it's a fun enough fantasy that would get butts in seats. But they totalled fked it.
