Ramzan Tales #1: Sherbet Duties
Unlike other days when Ammi would prepare the food herself, we all got to help in Ramzan. So every year before Ramzan - my mother, the head chef herself - would assign us our duties. My eyes were always on the grown-up tasks, of course. But my home riddled with nepotism - meant Abbu would take away the fruit chaat, my elder sister would always bag the chana chaat, Ammi herself did the pakoras and I was always left with the boring old sharbat duties.The happiest, however, was my youngest brother with lousy tastebuds who got to taste test everything even though his only goal was to eat.Apr 16, 2021
