Yeah, it can definitely be hard to photograph!
If the art is colored, be sure to put white objects like an open blank sketchbook around the art! The white objects will reflect light back into the paper a bit! That should help if the sun isn’t quite as bright as you need it to be!

•If you can’t scan it into the computer and your only focus is the art piece instead of the art and surrounding area, there’s an app called camscanner that works like a printer’s scanner but for your phone that takes away the whole issue of lighting (or at least reduces it!)
