What are your opinions on Bluesky as an art platform?šŸ¤”

I’ve been curious about it for awhile and want to know if it’s worth trying out?

I used to get a lot of engagement there but it since died out for me so it's only worth it if you've got the time and energy to keep interacting with ppl to remind them that you exist

Bluesky is quite small. Have to follow the hashtag community and know the rules for artworks to be seen. It’s starting to bring more light. Worth trying out.

I think it’s pretty good, it there just aren’t quite enough people regularly active on there to get SUPER BIG numbers on the regular.

My stuff always gets a minimum of 1 like, with an average of about 2-3 as a ā€œnobodyā€ artist (Tumblr usually results in 0, so Bluesky’s already better than Tumblr!)

You just have to use common hashtags & see if you can get into any Feeds for improved visibility!
(They’re a feature where people organize certain hashtags, keywords, or users into ā€œfollowableā€ feeds, reminds me of Subreddits, but are still definitely a different thing from Subreddits. I currently follow the Birds Feed that shows bird posts I think by hashtag/keyword of ā€œbirdā€ & the SFW Furry Art Feed that shows everyone’s art regardless of popularity as long as you use ā€œ#furryartā€ & have been followed back by the account running that Feed!)

I personally think it’s worth trying out. I wanted to make a Twitter before Musk took over & ruined everything, & Bluesky is one of Twitter’s main competitors (Instagram’s ā€œThreadsā€ is the other main competitor, but Instagram steals user’s images for AI so we don’t we like Threads) & most of the people who have Twitter have an account set up on Bluesky, I guess waiting for Twitter/X to do something REALLY BAD to then easily swap over to using Bluesky in its place. So as soon as another terrible Twitter/X update drops, Bluesky will see another spike in active users; it’s kind of a matter of time.

I found it difficult to get my art seen there. Instagram sucks because it got rid of the "recent" sections in hashtags, and in bluesky feeds it was no different; only popular accounts were featured in the art feeds most people used. But they have added hashtags since I left so it may be different now

it sucks simply because there isnt many very people in there, there is not an audience
