πŸŒ€ Story Time: In My Hand

For Sal, many a nightfall had been spent placed somewhere upon a patch of grass. It almost felt to be a routine, some days. Perhaps even a bad habit... not that it could truly be all that bad, really. Could it? That could be another thought for another time.

As she laid herself down with care, making herself comfortable, her eyes soon locked with the ever familiar twinkling of lights cast far above her. It was quiet, pardoning the occasional stray breeze that rustled the blades of grass that surrounded her. Such silence, however, was soon broken by the sound of a new thought; one that strayed from the brief "could staring at the sky for long periods of time actually be bad for me?" inquiry...

Every single world was different, yet, the sky never changed. Well, hardly ever.

Given the nature of astronomy's more thorough character, of course the skies were ever changing! From the parallax from one world to the next to the chemical makeup of the atmosphere; climatic changes, the physicality of one's eye, the list could go on and on. It was always technically different, but... rarely did it depart from the basic motif: tiny lights sprinkled across loads of dark space.

Was it not amazing to imagine the complexity of it all, masked by such a simple theme? Like, seriously.

Special shout out to those first brave souls who dared to theorize space was vast and not just some giant sparkling blanket looming overhead whenever the sun set.

To reiterate to herself on such vastness, Sal mentally revisited a handful of past adventures. She had encountered quite a few different worlds and dimensions in her lifetime. All of the wondrous things she had seen, people she had met, food she had eaten, songs she had heard - scattered throughout the cosmos. So many little details she could encapsulate! There was so much, and yet, it was all so little... so, so very little.

To think, just a single one of those planets, dwarfed by its sun - its star - occupied the space of a grain of sand in the sky. Like a glittering dust speck. Some of those specks were entire galaxies, to boot! Galaxies full of stars and planets of their own, all of which were still deemed nothing more than a spot of white paint flecked upon a dark canvas at a glance. One tiny little speck among trillions, unplanned and to some, paradoxically, unplanned by design.

Even as a cosmic wayfarer, all these memories Sal had could rest within a single star out there.

All that she had ever been, had known, seen, dreamed. Everything... it could all rest within the palm of her hand.
