Hey guys, I'd like to get some tips on how to get clients for commissions.
I'm in some need of money due to my dad starting chemo this Friday. He can't work so I want to help out with finances.
Any places that are good to advertise myself? What can I do to boost engagement?
I've already done twitter, Instagram and reddit.

You kinda need to already have an audience in place for something like this. You'd probably not even get enough to do any dent in the costs if you do commissions (ie. A $20 commission won't even cover a week of expenses)
You can do research in your local area to see if your father can qualify for financial assistance. There's food banks and other essential items that other nonprofits that can help you in other ways. There's more efficient ways to get help as opposed to commissions.

Most people who have success with commissions do so because they already have an audience of people who like their art---you need some level of popularity in order to have people who want to buy from you. Advertising randomly to strangers rarely works out because there's just wayyyy too many artists out there looking to sell things these days.
If you don't already have a following or a built up platform where people follow you, unfortunately the chances of you making any fast money are slim. But if you want to get commissions long term, just work on building your account(s) by being active, posting art, and gaining attention naturally. Then eventually you'll have your own group of "fans" who will be interested in buying commissions when you offer them.

•If it's something urgent like that, u may be more well suited to find a part-time job. Commissions is extremely competitive. It's like basically saying you're going to take up entrepreneurship. In this field, supply greatly exceeds demand. Everyone here has something to sell, and like 1/100 people need to buy something. In order to succeed, you must set yourself far above the crowd, and begging for sales won't do that; you have to either have a very desirable social media presence, or be so skilled that your work is a rare luxury. You are selling a luxury good right now. There is no fast track or app that will magically give you a loyal audience of buyers; it takes years of not only skill buildup but also marketing savvy to build up a notable income from commissions.
I'm not saying it's impossible or that you should give up, but I am saying that you shouldn't expect any immediate success.
As for tips, tiktok and Facebook are the best places to go in my opinion; Facebook has a lot of buyers who post adverts. Your art just has to be stunning, because 50 other artists are replying to every single advert within minutes of it being posted. Tiktok can boost your small business overnight if you know how to play it right. Good luck with everything
