Toad King

Hi all! Here’s my first post that I would love some critique on. I feel like there is a lot going on in it. I’m wondering what people might have done differently to enhance both characters as focal points? Where have I got too much contrast or not enough etc? And how can I improve the composition to help with this?

All critique accepted though, I’d really love to learn from this!

Nice job! Cool concept you have. I think what you can do is really up the contrast. The light is coming from behind the character so there’s be a really dark cast shadow on her. I think you can also utilize the colours in the BG to help set the scene.

You have a lot of green going on so I’d recommend implementing that green tone into your character so it looks like she’s part of the scene. You can do this by adding a green blending layer and playing around with filters.

I like the mushrooms you have going on but they’re a bit too muted and dark and they get lost by blending with the colours of the Gil they’re in. I’d recommend desTurated the hill their on so they stand out more and even brightening the parts where the light hits them a bit more.

Having two focal points can be pretty difficult. I think to help you can change the eye direction of the girl, right now she doesn’t seem to be looking At the frog, you can also up the saturation of the frog creature and girl and desaturate and blur the BG.

Something else you could’ve done was have the frog and girl be in the same eye level so that they both can be the same focal point. Or you can sell one thing being the focal point ( the frog) and really sell that by making him brighter, perhaps changing the camera angle so you see him more and the girl less etc...

Good job overall though!
