Fairy Design Challenge
this is a challenge that i am super excited to unveil, as fairies are something very special to me!!they were a big part of my childhood, so i hope to spread that joy to all of you too!!!
before i get into challenge-specific details, some general guidelines:
- you can only use your own art, no stealing, tracing or ai will be accepted
- absolutely no sexual NSFW or gore
- nudity is allowed, but you should put a filter over it
- rule # 4 have fun :)
(oh also there is no deadline!! get to it when you can get to it

)ok, now to challenge specific details! this is going to be long, so a summary of the most important points for anyone who doesn’t want to read a lot more:
fairies can range from humanoid (human-looking but with the addition of wings and pointed ears) to nearly completely plant or creature looking. common varieties of creatures and plants that a fairy might appear like may include local animals (land or water), plants, flowers, trees and bugs. fairies that have more features of any animal are less likely to have functioning wings, or wings at all. standard fairies are generally palm-sized, most fairies that look like something else for camouflage may appear as the proper size of that creature or plant. one last thing is this kingdom may be in a forest biome, but feel free to make a fairy for any biome you like! they could be a traveling fairy or just be from a different kingdom :)
ok, now for the longer part:
fairies are creatures of nature who forage for much of the materials they use. they are naturally curious, and often have a streak for mischief.
there are many different kinds of fairies, most being the size of an average human palm, unless said fairy is a creature-like variety, which the fairy will remain the size of the creature/nature object they camouflage as. fairies who forage more often appear more like forest creatures and plants, so as to not draw attention to their existence and to camouflage themselves against predators.
fairies live in a hive-like community hidden from outsiders with magic, usually by the ruler of the kingdom.
the ruler of a fairy kingdom is not necessarily in the role of a traditional king or queen, but rather spends magic and connects with citizens to make sure that everything is running smoothly.
most fairy communities are very versatile, including bridges and docks to accommodate to all different kinds of fairies! there are also community spaces for fairies that may be too big or small to be able to be comfortable in the original kingdom! these spaces are always near to the original kingdom, and usually the space for smaller fairies is still inside the kingdom :)
ok thats it!!! thank you for reading this far if you did, and if you didn’t that is alright i am pretty longwinded
also this challenge is a lot less structured than the violet sparrow, no need to choose any specific role if you wouldn’t like to! you can do whatever calls to you :)
if anyone has any challenge related questions i would be happy to answer them in the comments :) i may not be able to get to them right away but i would love to help out if anyone is confused! May 22, 2023
