Hey, what’s your thoughts on the term Thembo as a gender neutral term for Himbo/Bimbo??
I thought of this a while ago when I was creating an enby character who had the same traits as a Himbo/Bimbo
(Also I kinda hate the term bimbo cos of the negative history behind the word but I also like the idea of turning the meaning on its head and all three of the words just mean, a big/strong, dumb person who is the absolute sweetest and has a heart of gold

Non-binary person here! I personally don’t like it because (to me), it comes across as the “theydies” & “gentlethems” thing. It seems to emphasize “they/them” pronouns in a sorta fetishy way.
Like it’s as if someone went, “Oh, right, non-binary people exist. What makes them stand out again? They/them pronouns? Yeah, we’ll just use that, I’m sure they’ll love being included too.”
I’d rather it be like, Timbo or Kimbo or something. Something that’s distinct, but isn’t as blantant & potentially offensive as just putting “they” in front of himbo/bimbo.
I wouldn’t be against it if the one for ladies was something like “shimbo” or “herbo” because himbo does have “him” in front of it. Like if all of them had pronoun prefixes, then of course “thembo” would make sense. But it isn’t, so it comes across (to me) as a forced inclusivity thing.

i don’t rlly like it. i don’t think there’s anything wrong with it exactly but if someone called me a thembo i would strangle them

I think it’s alright, if someone who’s Nonbinary is similar to a himbo/bimbo id call them one or the other depending on how similar they are to one or another

•sounds like speaker has a lisp, I'm not a fan. also i already use himbo/bimbo for anyone it suits regardless of gender.
