Calfuray, the purplish planet

A long-overdue update on my spec bio planet project! I have been working on so many things for it lately, especially since making an Instagram account dedicated to it.

Many of the details of the previous planetary introduction remain the same, but most notably I changed the predominant foliage coloration to shades of purple & related colors— teal was not impossible, but it started to seem too unlikely for the K-type star the world orbits. I found it easier to form justifications or theories behind protective anthocyanin-like pigments for the native phototrophs. The planet’s name has changed from Ona to Calfuray, in reference to its purple-tinted landmasses.
The axial tilt remains a subtle 15 degrees, and the planet has been discovered to be somewhat higher gravity too! (current estimates of 1.3 to 1.5 times higher than Earth’s gravity).

We shall say the first image was an incorrect speculation, before the actual photos of Calfuray were captured— as there is plenty of debate today about what color hypothetical phototrophs would wear around orange dwarf stars. This is just one possibility, where the “plants” reflect varying amounts of red and some blue light to create a distinctive purplish hue.

I love the amount of research you put into this. I was contemplating some similar things about a planet I have created and a couple that I was wanting to create, about what kind of biological span worlds of x size, orbiting y star at z distance etc etc would have. And then two things happened; first, my brain realized that it is way too intellectually limited for this crap, and started giving me a headache. Second, I didn't want to get so wrapped up in what's scientifically realistic that I sacrificed imagination. By the way, I'm not saying you're doing that, not by a long shot. I'm just saying that your brain is probably more capable of juggling all those considerations when creating your world, and so you're less likely to end up like one of those little dudes from Mars Attacks when they hear a Slim Whitman record than I am, so I look forward to seeing more of this cool looking world 🙃
