like most of the replies already say, try to already have a topic or a question in mind when dming someone. most of the time you can say "hey [blank]! what'd you do today?" or "how was your day?" and the conversation can branch off from there. I had a conversation go from school to favorite classes to favorite music to making playlists for each other, so as long as you can keep adding things that are relevant to the conversation, you can probably keep it going! I'm not the best at conversation either, but I hope this helps :)

I mean I'm not a moot of yours but I usually just ask ,"hey how have you been? " or something of the sort. Another thing is replying to stories but that only works on Instagram

Honestly one of you has gotta be extroverted and outgoing, I’m literally only friends with super friendly people bc im terrified of bothering someone. Like the other commenter says start with a question or topic in mind, especially about a shared interest instead of just hey

i like to open with a question or compliment so it’s something easy for them to respond to! and try to keep it all in one message so i don’t spam them with notifications, and DEFINITELY don’t hit them with a “hey.” or “what’s up” and nothing else

Advice Haha. You tell me when you solve that because I too struggle with confrontation.
Usually, it just starts with a conversation in the comments and when the thread gets pretty long you move to DMs.
