The "no thoughts, head empty, spam the words 'cool' and 'neat'" approach just about sums up how I write book reviews as well, lol--
Although I also usually try to pick out one or two things about the book that I like in particular, like, say, a certain scene, or character, or world building concept, and then go more in depth on how they work and why I like them.
