Raffle with an art prize by Dook.

To celebrate reaching the milestone of 300 followers on Artfol, I'm excited to announce a little contest! I'd like to engage in a thought-provoking discussion about the significance of art. I don’t want to enforce extra work on you, so no custom draws are required. ◈ Here's what's on the table: - ONE lucky winner will receive a clean sketch artwork (the level of complexity/polishing at my discretion). - The artwork will come in both printable and web-ready sizes. - I'll select participants whose responses resonate with me, and then their usernames will enter a randomizer to ensure a fair selection of the 2 winners. - Please bear with me as creating the requested artwork might take some time. Patience is free. - I won’t draw anything outside Artfol rules, explicit or fetish. Monsters, mechs, multi-eyes, occult/religious creatures, and dark vibe entities. - I can draw your own OC (or my re-design of them), fanart, your beloved pet, and generally positive stuff. - I'll be in touch via DM on Artfol or my email. ◈ If you're interested in participating, kindly follow these steps: - Give my account a follow. - Submit any genuine artwork that is made by you to this challenge (old or new). - In your submission's description, address the following: ➤ Elaborate on your perspective regarding the significance of painted/digital art (artwork), its value, and its role. Why do we need human-made art to exist? - You don't need to craft an extensive thesis. Simply highlight the 3-4 aspects that hold the most importance for you. If you're inclined to share more, continue in the comments section below your initial response. - The angle you take in your answer is entirely your choice: individual, societal, economic, historical value. I won't impose restrictions on it. - It's best to keep your response between a few sentences and half a page in length. *As a side note, I've already prepared my own response, which I'll share at the conclusion to avoid influencing anyone's input. Please note that the deadline for this raffle is September 20, 2023. Looking forward to your fascinating thoughts!

The significance of art 🤔

I really love this idea, so I decided to write a whole essay 👀 (/j I tried to keep it short as I could lol. So sorry for the long post 😭)

These are the 4 most important aspects of art to me (and artworks significance, value, and role)

-Growth
I chose to start with this one, because it’s the reason I picked this artwork to submit. Growth in art means a lot to me; honestly I feel like it shows how much people can grow too. I made a lot of improvement in art over only a year, by putting in time, effort, and care. And this applies to humans too. You’ll never grow in either aspect if you don’t try. (This aspect is kind of hard to explain, but I tried my best lol)

-Expressing yourself/freedom
This I mashed into one category because they tie together. You literally have the freedom to draw WHATEVER you want, and that’s amazing to me. Art has no limit. This isn’t counting sharing it to the internet, but even online you don’t have many limitations on what you can and can’t post. And artists’ ability to express themselves tie into this, because you can create new worlds, or you can draw fanart - like of a tv show, or a game that you enjoy - or whatever. And when you’re drawing (for me at least), you can escape to somewhere where your worries are smaller, if not gone.

-Community
I think Artfol is a great example for this… It’s a community built entirely upon artwork, like Deviant Art and other art platforms. Art gives you things to discuss with so many different people. You can trade tips, participate in an art trade (speaking of, Artfight is also a great example), draw other peoples characters, collaborate - all sorts of things! And this doesn’t all have to happen online, it can be offline too. The internet has just given us all a better link to share what we enjoy. There are also fan bases, or even just fan art on websites, that people can share a love over through art.

-Deeper thinking/meaning
This aspect is quite to the point (ironically, considering what we’re talking about lol). Some artworks contain deeper meaning than what meets the eye, some of which we can relate to, or that make us think differently about our lives, or the world around us. It ties back into artists ability to express themselves too; artists can really give a piece emotion. For example, can make it feel sad, by using darker colors, or ones cooler or more somber, or they can use a metaphor hidden in the art that you might not see at first glance.

Why we need human art to exist (aka TL;DR)(And I know that I didn’t mention AI until now, so it may seem kind of random, but I figured that it’s especially important to this topic with the rise of AI and AI art): AI computer-generated art is soulless. It doesn’t have the experience and feelings put into it that only human-made art has. To me, if human-made art ceased to exist, it would be like losing a lifeline, as well as so much expression and representation in this world.
