Can we discuss and elaborate for a moment
Here's a tip if anyone else is finding someone to commission
There is most certainly a wrong and right way to go about it.
About a year ago I have had someone hit me up on discord, basically wanting me to commission them, so the person shows me lots of banners to use for streaming and all that and saying "I'm running a special discount ". But kindly I simply refused.
And then It happened again, same thing, showing all the art and models. Again, kindly refusing the offer.
And now a third time which happened a few months ago...I think......
But this time( the 3rd time) the person was being a little bit too pushy about it......but being the kind soul that Iam, I simply refused.....
My mind: what's with this trope, is it another way of hacking someone?
Just recently, the same thing happened, once more, kindly refusing the offer.
Don't be these types of graphics artist or any type of artist that you are.
It kinda makes you looks real desperate in my opinion. Not everyone is gonna have the budget for it
Even still, it's not a good way to promote yourself
For me personally I don't know much about commission at the moment(still learning), but would love to, just not forcing myself upon someone or push anyone for money
I get it, we all wanna make a living of what we do.......
Bottom line
Don't be this types of artist

there's been this common-knowledge thing that there's art scammers going around discord asking for money in exchange for art for the last few months or so

It looks desperate because they ARE desperate.
No self-respecting seller would contact the same person three times after they've rejected.
I'd even say they wouldn't do it the first time unless requested (like a "LF illustrators, DM me" type of thing).
It's the oversaturation of illustrators. There are too many and people feel that their last resort is to give unsolicited offers since it's already hard to find clients.
I'm against the idea that people aren't entitled to money. But I do believe that your money is worth what you think it's worth.
The second time they ask I'll have said "thanks, but I'm not interested. Please don't contact again".
Ill let it slide the first time. But twice is too many and they feel like pests by that point.

Honestly if I was in this situation, I would not be nice about it. Not to say I would curse them out, but I would be blunt and tell them that using this specific method to gain commissions will make them come off as desperate and kinda entitled imo. Like what makes them think they are entitled to my money?
