Clouds Study
This is a study of clouds that I did recently. If there's anything I can improve upon with the clouds, please let me know! I didn't spend much time or effort on the other elements, so I'm not looking for too much critique on that.Apr 22, 2021Comments
Love the composition and the style you’re going for. I like the shape of the cloud so let’s work with that. I think pushing the contrast can really help. Have the light area be brighter and the shadows be darker. Adding some glow can really make the clouds pop and feel like it’s a bright day scene. You can also play around with sharp and soft edge shadows. You have a lot of soft shadows and airbrush effects. Although clouds are soft and fluffy, utilizing some sharp and hard shadows can give the clouds more form.
Applying some dramatic lighting to the character, the grass and the clouds can help unify the scene too. You can also change the colours of the shadows on the clouds. Right now they’re kind of a dark blue grey colour. I think if you used more brighter cool shadows can really make your piece be more vibrant.
This is also just my opinion but you can also shrink the foreground and character so the clouds are the main focus and it could create some more visual interest and composition and give the clouds a very magnificent and ethereal look.
