I don’t use krita but I think I might help you a little bit.
For the lighting, you can play with the layer on your layer window side (there’s always this option in every software) I usually put on overlay mode to emphasize the light effect, especially when you put your scenery on sunset lighting. « Multiply » is mostly used for colored shadows. Regulate as well the opacity of it to appear more appealing. Of course, those modes can depend on you art style and you can keep the layer on normal mode. Tho, you will always need to test the colors before applying in any case.
