Does anyone here know how to make a literary analysis?

Lool for hints and clues in the text to reveal its secrets. Highlight any rhetorical figure you can find (you can easily find a list of existing rhetorical figures online. To name a few: climax, comparison, metaphor, chiasm, oxymoron, allitteration, onomatopae, anthropomorisation, syesthesia, rhyme). Try to understand if there is a recurrent topic or family of words in the text, or the same idea and describe the phases in the text in which it is developed. Pay attention to how things are described and try to find the logic guiding those descriptions. If you know other texts of the same author or the same literary period or different texts that might have inspired the text in analysis, look for similarities.

usually, you take a theme from the book and you pick it apart! (i hate lit analysis, research writing ftw, but im a teaching assistant for ap us history and apush essays are awfully similar to lit analyses) start with a short context paragraph, where youll introduce characters and background relevant to your thesis. The standard # of claims to include in the thesis is 2-3, and you need at least 1 piece of text evidence per claim to include in your body paragraphs. In each body paragraph, you'll analyze 1 claim. Open the paragraph by restating your claim, then lead into your text evidence, which you will quote directly from the book, or summarize if the quote is too long (make sure to do internal citations!). You'll then analyze the evidence in 3-5 sentences, connecting your analysis back to your thesis. If you have another piece of evidence for the same claim, rinse and repeat in the same paragraph! some teachers like to see a conclusion paragraph -- thats just where you restate your claims (summarize your essay) and end things off with a bang.
