I would help except I don’t know how I do anything, I get possessed by an ancient arts deity every time I set out to paint.
I’m just frantically throwing colors on there

my tip would be to first watch a beginners video on youtube to get the basics, then if you want to do something specific, google it when you need it! working digitally is like the oposite way of thinking: think first about what you want, and there will be a way to do it (instead of learning all the options and from there make your art)

I'd say watch some digital painting tutorials to really get a grasp of the fundamentals.
Learning how to work with layers, how to customise brushes, how to use shape tools etc.
This knowledge can really help you excel with your digital art

I would start with a simple program that has a lot of limitations (I’m talking Microsoft paint level) and then you can move onto a more complex program; for free ones I recommend Krita (most similar to photoshop), medibang, or any others related to these. Digital art is so fun I hope you enjoy it!

I'd say start with the easiest route which is finding free programs and using it. You can then test the waters there, research tutorials online and test it there, and find the process where you're comfortable at; basically, just experiment. Second, references are going to be your savior. The more references that you use, the more it can help you build more ideas and meld them together. And when you get used to it or at least find your footing, try upgrading like using other paid programs (provided you can afford it) or an iPad and such.

I guess my tip is that not all of the rules you'll find for art online isn't set in stones... These things change with the wind and it's better to use them as a guide than to turn them into your laws
And if you want a good start, search for some stuff online and don't stick with just one option... Experiment always♡

If you have an iPad, procreate is worth the one time payment of like 8 dollars. It works well on iPad and will never try to charge you more.
