Sketch: Curly Cutie
Frohes neues Jahr!(Happy new year in german)
I don't really want to admit it but this sketch took me the whole day.
I fell in love with the reference picture when I saw it on Pinterest (original photo by @ garriiet) and wanted to draw it immediately. (She's so beautiful, isn't she?!
) But it always looked awful, but then I realized my mistake: I looked too often at the reference and I tried to copy the (facial) features subconsciously even if they didn't fit my style. Especially the hair really annoyed me but when I drew it the way I thought looked good it suddenly went really well.
I'm really proud of myself for finishing this sketch even if it took me hours to draw. I wasn't this persistent on a drawing for month and it felt so good to learn something about my technique while drawing it. I focused too much on resembling the original pictures before that I totally forgot to keep in the style that flows easy on hands. (Does that sentence make sense in English?
)Anyways... likes, comments, shares and saves are highly appreciated.

This looks so good!!! I can really relate to the whole reference vs style thing
finding the balance between making it look like the original person/reference vs still keeping it in my "style" is such a struggle! I always start obsessing over getting small details correct (like strands of hair) and before I know it, it doesn't look anything like my usual style hahah
