A piece of advice expierence taught me: Don't take all your inspiration from one single artist you admire.
That will make you copy in a more or less obvious way their art, wether you intend it or not. If you only have one source as reference, it will be noticed in your art, and you will become a cheaper version of that artist, and it will be specially noticed if that artist has a very distinguished style. You will be the cheaper version because that artist has more experience on their own style than you, so you will always be at least one step behind. You may get an audience if it's an appealing style and you are skilled, but you will never be the one artist people think of when they see that style.
Have different sources, drink from artists with different styles, experiment, explore your own ideas, find other sources outside that form of art like nature, books, music, sculpture...
It will take longer to find your style, yes, finding a style takes a lot of time and practice (I'm still looking for mine) but once you find it, it will be YOUR style, not a watered version of other person's. It will reflect ypur personal journey and passions, not who you admire. It will be you.Apr 26, 2021

Yup yup. There's this excercise I heard on a podcast that you should do a comparison with of 8 other artist whose work you admire and study. Take one example from each of them and put your best work in the middle.
If you have the possibility to get valuable and honest feedback, share the 9 grid window, ask for feedback, and think of how you can improve.
I had a fun time just thinking about who the 8 people that inspire me would be, and I clearly saw some stylistic things that I'd like to spend more time practicing.
It's a sure thing that creativity loves and feeds on new experiences and interests outside of art, too.
