What are your guys thoughts on Cara. I’ve been scoping it out for some days. I love the vision the devs have, but I recently learned that:
1 - they are in a butt ton of debt and aren’t willing to have more variety when it comes to financially supporting the platform. I learned the hard way that being realistic doesn’t mean you have to stop doing the thing you wanna do it’s just not done exactly the way you imagined it.
2 - there’s a lot of artist posting on there and liking post (if your new it’s very easy to at least get 1-2 likes), but engagement on there is almost nonexistent and that might just be due to how hard it is to find engagement type text posts at least on the app (or I’m just smoll brain).
3 - Cara reminds me a lot of Artfol than it does Instagram and I kind of love Artfol a bit more than Cara even though I love both platforms and would recommend both.

I still have it. Everything I post on here I post on there. There’s barely any engagement or support. Maybe it’s just me, but there’s no surviving on that app unless your already a very popular artist <3

I think it’s a great app and offers a wide range of features for an artist-centric platform. I would definitely post there more if I didn’t have Artfol already. It’s too professional feeling to me and there is no community of non-artists, so I feel like Artfol and Bluesky has been a good combo for me

•The main thing it lacks structurally for me is a lounge or a living room type space where discussions happen. Currently everyone exists on their own islands. I use the mobile version on Android.
The is developer has lots of worries which she openly shares and it's not always most uplifting to read even though it's all very real and valid.
I'd like to see more art discussion - but there's very little tools to actually find it - and the major discussions on the platform frequently echo themes like ai, or the dangers of ai, and things like being overworked and sad.
It needs a chill comfy space.

•If you find a community there then it’s really fun! You don’t have to treat it like a portfolio/work thing either! Theres a lot of hobbyists sharing like they do here on artfol. I think I like it equally to arfol and I met some people I like there who I keep up with. Sometimes the amount of engagement there is a little overwhelming because I’m used to the internet kind of hiding image based content I guess. The creator is currently in a lawsuit over AI, does not allow it there, and spreads lots of info about it to anyone who will listen. I think it will work out for them as it actually had a huge wave of users and discovery from people in general when instagram had the exodus and many of them have stuck around and continued to post

•It reminds me too much of Insta and Twitter visually (in a bad way), posting feels intimidating cuz of the way it's being marketed, and the lack of engagement is a total dealbreaker

•I think what they are trying to do is really great and is very rare today. Reading their updates it looks like they’re optimizing the code to be more cost affective and working out some deals for funding as we speak. I do think it needs more community focused tabs for engagement. I’m kind of tired of just scrolling between each picture commenting and liking. In a world full of greed we are very lucky to have places like Cara and Artfol.

•It is something that worries me tbh, I wanna join Cara for potential work and to have my own portfolio but if it’s in loads of debt, it could officially close down. It doesn’t feel stable in that sense. I hope that makes sense :(
