Anyone have tips on thinking about different and interesting poses or situations to draw your characters in? I feel like I'm always drawing them just standing around and can never think of anything.May 11, 2021

Take ur fists, put them together, then twist. One is the torso and the other is the hips. U can make more interesting poses doing this even when u just draw them standing

•Some poses you might wanna try, sitting cross-legged, squatting, dancing, interacting with something (like an animal or flower), maybe do poses depending on their emotions like tired=yawning or stretching, sad= hunched over with hands rubbing tears away, angry= stomping a foot or hands in the air yelling something

•Bit of a random one, but I've used it a few times for poses: vintage sewing pattern drawings, or historical fashion plates. They're posed in way that's meant to be interesting but also show off what they're wearing, so they work well for drawing. (I usually look then up on pinterest)

•Art prompts, pushing body language to show an emotion, mini comics...and assuming you have a story for them, just drawing events from that story? (And if you don’t have one, making one will definitely give you stuff to draw XD)

•I’d use a pose app that you can manipulate yourself, like easyposer. It has default poses that you can then change around or you can make one up yourself. I have trouble visualizing poses so it’s been a big help. It’s free but the paid version is like a 8-12 USD one time purchase.

•Try searching for inspiration on Pinterest, like references sheets or just photography in general, when you search for outfits there are also a lot of poses you can get inspiration from. Also try and think first in the scenario they are in, like the landscape and the person(s) they are with, and then think “hmmm what they can do in this situation”, for example dancing, walking, starting at something, taking a picture, a fight scene, or stuff like that.

Use references! There are plenty of images of poses and natural interactions to give you ideas.
