After picking a first and last name set for any original fictional character I always search it to make sure theres no media or famous person with it already in the larger public zeitgeist (within reason) and without fail if I’m coming up with an ‘everyman’ kind of name then theres always some random footballer or other sports fellow with it. that’s really interesting! i usually go firstly for the “usage” (aka language) or the meaning i want x character’s name to have, then i decide if i want it more masculine/feminine or neutral and then i browse the names xD Behind the names.com is my go-to site to find everything nowadays! there you can also see the surnames and the famous people named with x name you choose

•I like to make up names sometimes and always have to google the name i come up with to make sure it doesn’t mean anything ridiculous or offensive in another language

Same, i look for fictional characters too, so it doesn't look like i am copying it or referencing
