I want to get lost in a dreamDoes anyone know of any horror animations with a creepy art style?
I feel like animation would be a great medium for horror since there are virtually no limits to it. Yet, I have trouble getting creeped out by drawings and I feel like most supposed horror animations don't look the part.
But, I do have have a short list of animations that I genuinely find spooky! I'll add them in a comment below. Hopefully that can give you an idea of what I'm looking for.
I'd also prefer to leave out elements that could lessen the horror, like action, comedy, and fanservice.Feb 16, 2022

I agree that stop-motion animation adds a terrifying effect, for me there three animations that I can suggest to you:

•-My Little Goat: This isn't that scary looking, but it does get points for uniqueness since it's a stop-motion anime. I think the contrast between the cute goat dolls and the inherently disturbing imagery helps with the film's allegory about childhood trauma (TW: contains CSA). I also think stop-motion works for animated horror since it has a kind of realism to it that 2D doesn't.
-Yami Shibai: The title is a pun on kamishibai; while I haven't watched any part of it, I assume that's relevant to the look of the anime. It doesn't look like a typical anime and appears to have some imagery similar to Shiki, but executed more effectively imo.
-La Casa Lobo/The Wolf House: By far the most unique animated film I've ever come across. It has incredibly intricate stop-motion animation, with some elements of 2D. I've only seen the trailer but just watching that much makes me feel like I'm losing my grip on reality. 10/10 would recommend. I heard it took five years to finish and it certainly looks like it.
-The Walten Files: I became aware of this from an analysis video when I was exploring the analogue horror rabbit hole (see what I did there). I didn't think it could scare me at first since it consists of rudimentary 2D animation. That was a big oopsie! Something about the low-quality graphics makes it seem more scary to me. It's so weird to me that I'm not affected by Junji Ito manga, but a cartoon bunny keeps me up at night. I want to watch the tapes but I'm not sure if I can handle all of it.
