The Fallen Angel by cabanel right? I'm not sure but I don't think the trend was really started by anything famous or a particular event. I think it's just becoming another classical painting that people love to redraw with other characters. Like Klimt's The kiss, Fragonard's The Swing, and Pierre Auguste Cot's Springtime
