I watched Raya and the Last Dragon and it was-
Underwhelming, I feel like Disney has been going downhill for a while now. The movie lowered my expectations exponentially, the story they were going for didn’t make me feel anything, I knew it could’ve done something but the pacing was so quick and uninvesting there was hardly any real struggle. I’m tired of half-assed writing and lack of detail, feels like a lot of it just poofed out of existence past 2000 give or take.
The trailer didn’t even really spark much and even before I watched it, I wasn’t drawn or interested in it. The “dystopian wasteland” was only a dystopian wasteland because the narration told us. It doesn’t feel like anyone is in any real danger most of the time, I didn’t really care about Raya getting beat up and most of the characters are one note. And the dragon designs are… same model, a million colors and slightly different horns. And that’s it for the most part..
Yes I want 2D animation back please and thankies, using different mediums to tell a story like live-action, 2D, and 3D animation should be used more wisely and less gimmicky/cash graby, it should depend on what the story seeks to flesh out and what the atmosphere and characters should appear to be. Disney has enough to risk a few things doesn’t it? I wish there was a brand being supported no matter what that would just try something new!Jul 4, 2021

I really love the concept and it almost looked apocalyptic at the first half but it could've been longer and delivered better. Everything was also predictable ://

•Didn't really care all that much for the character designs in general. You know something's terribly wrong when Jin Kim's designs for Tangled, Frozen, and Moana(while criticized for being same-y in terms of the main female characters, there's still quite a lot of variety with the other characters)still have more personality than this film's boring-looking designs.

•Hi and yes I agree with you. I finished watching it 5 days ago. Imo, the animation is nice and smooth. But for the story,,, I think its too… “classic” and predictable
