Eyyy- non art related question, but I’m curious-
What did you hate/like in school? Is there anything specific you’d like your teachers to do in class that would make you feel more comfortable?

For me, I’m really quiet so I wish “participation” also meant doing group and solo work, and actively trying to engage in whatever way that may mean. Some days I need to draw but I like to talk to others, some days I need to do work on my own, and other days I love raising my hand and answering Qs the teacher is asking, it all depends lol.

I’m asking also cuz Im planning on eventually going into teaching, and I wanna be aware of what kind of needs I might wanna pay attention to in the future C:

Definetly hated that awnsering questions in class raised grades since I'm socially handicapped I couldn't do that in my dreams

But I really liked when the teacher was funny and likeable. I always looked forward to chemistry and physics classes because the teacher was so funny and nice and I wasn't even especially interested in the subject
omg yooo I'm thinking of going into teaching too ✋ what field are you thinking of teaching in? i think it wld differ for each tbh

i think for me i hate the pressure to do perfectly but i think it's a combination of being in an asian society, chinese school and in an express stream.

teachers seem to have this... superiority complex about their subject, especially in high school and primary, expecting you to put in 100% into their subject even if it's not even the most important or maybe not even your goal. like, my math teacher expected full marks on all our assignments or she would ask us to copy by hand, the entire worksheet (10+ pages, diagrans and all). she would go through exam questions in class and if u got the answer wrong, you had to stand and she'd scold you for not getting such a "simple question right" etc. etc. i was so bad at math, i was standing for the whole class getting scolded for every single mistake 😩 practically abuse tbh lmfao

honestly making your students fear you is the worst tactic. they're not going to learn anything. i appreciated the compassionate teachers who allowed late submissions and didn't mind if we were a little slow, and would give some grace if we mentioned we had too much work to do, etc. we're humans too, with our own lives and problems. if a teacher is kind and nice, most of us don't want to disappoint them anyway and try to do our best.
I absolutely hated the forcing you into making presentations. Like, there's shy kids and then there's kids who have full panic attacks thinking about going out and doing it. They always told me forcing me was gonna teach me to do it and to loose the stress. It was a feeling lie. I learn nothing but to get more anxious. I'm 24 and I still absolutely hate them
In our first day they made us fill a little form with questions about ourselves and at the end it said to write if we had any health issues. I assumed that mental health issues were okay to write here. So I did (I never dared to the other years but I figured that it was time for me to make a step). Our teacher said she would read everything, however, the entire year she kept on putting me in situations where my mental health was at risk.

I was ashamed to have talked about my problems to only be ignored. I hope teachers would try to understand that mental health is way more important than our grades...
I guess I kinda hate it how the teachers would compare classes. We have 10 classes for each year. Teachers would compare the last classes with the first class. Teachers also tend to be bias among the first class students, treating them nicer than the last class. Teacher think the last classes are stupid, disobedient and just a bunch of gangsters. While treating the first as like royals or something. As someone who's in the first class, teachers tend to talk to us about how bad the last classes are. They also put a lot of pressure on us, thinking that we have to be perfect in everything. With the excuse of us being 'smart' I really hate the pressure and I pity the last classes bc of all the backlash they get every year. Oh btw once they put you in a class, that's you're class till you graduate. It's really sad. I hate it.
I hate it that there's a culture that you need to be good at subjects like math, physics, chemoatry to be consider "smart". There's also a culture that if a person wants to do art, any kind of art, like poetry, drawing, music, People at school often say that those jobs are useless, and tell us to persue things like math, physics, or any other subjects that they consider to be "smart"
I hated math bc of a really bad teacher who was absent 90% of the year on maturnity leave so the entire class failed and the few times she was there she taught us wrong, was kind of bitchy. Was limited after school and forced us to write math essays. I really loved my english classes bc they got me into reading and writing and gave me room to flourish. Part of that qas stricter homework but the teachers kept us on task the whole time and encouraged us to keep trying.
I guess that depends on what stage of school we’re talking about, now that I’m in post-secondary, it’s pretty much the same as high school except the stakes are kind of higher (coughfinancescough)

I like College/university for the amount of opportunities you have, as well as give you some pretty solid discounts on stuff. But I wouldn’t really rely on the education part of it, considering that all that matters is you getting that piece of paper/PDF in the end.

My experience with actual classes have been pretty mixed, which is expected. Most of the profs I’ve had have been pretty good or at least decent at their jobs lol
i hate students in general 🧡 specially on high school, holy shit 🤢
and something that i hate even more is GROUP PROJECTS. hell no. i just want to smash everyone's head.

and the system in general, i hate it. it just puts so much pressure on students to reach a specific number that they just explode inside
For me it was math. Cant retain math skills to save my life. Once i got to hs tho I liked that i was able to just screw around after my work was done in class. That was mainly freshman year tho, before I moved to online school (before covid). For that it was similar that I could finish things fast and then chill for the rest of the day.
I agree with the others, having to participate a certian ammount to get a grade is awful for shy kids. Probably the thing I hated the most were "Socratic circles" because it was always that you needed to talk like 3 times to get a good grade >:(
i just liked working independently in school ! some teachers would force me to work in a group or with a partner and i would end up doing the work alone anyway... so i would like if teachers gave flexible options to choose a group or not :-)
Same!! I hated when there was a grade for it, like you have to raise your hand X times for an A in participation. I did well on all the test and that should be enough😛
i hated it when the teacher be like “choose your own groups” for projects cause I’d always be the one alone and the teacher would have to put me in one🧍🏾‍♀️
