in my experience, making art friends first starts with supporting artists whose work you like, commenting on their posts, mesaaging them about their work if you're interested in it, and generally trying to find those that you have something in common with? many are also introverted so they'd be thankful if you reach out first, there are also those who aren't rlly interested in making friends, so even if you fail, don't give up bcs eventually you will find ppl you'll get along with( •᎑• )♡

•I also really wanted to make art friends a few months ago. So what helpt me (and it was a desprite attempet) was joining a art discord server and just send random people in that server a prived message. And then see who responds same goes for insta and also here. After some time i got a few art friends. So all my art friends are only but that's oké with me. I'm always open to meet new people try new stuff and do some collabs or art trades, with that being said i would love to be a art friend of yours if you would like that. :D

•most of my irl artist friends started drawing bc of me! either that or we've been friends for a really long time.
•
•not rly ? i have 1 rly good friend that's also an „artist“ but my impression is that we don't consider each other „artist friends“ bc that wasn't how we bonded or met. we met on an online video game and that's how i think of our friendship. so we are friends that just both happen to be artists, not specifically „artist friends“. ( ̄ω ̄;)

I used to, met them all at art school. But we've drifted apart along the years. Now my artist friends are online friends.

Most of my friends are artists! One of them was one before I even started, she always loved art. She also had an art account but it's pretty inactive. Another one is also really good, but she posted even less on her art account. Two others draw from time to time, but don't really post it anywhere apart from our chats with each other. The four of us (not including first one, she's in a different friend group) sometimes met up at one of our places just to draw. Everyone brought their pencils or tablets and we shared them, some trying out digital art and me filling my traditional sketchbook with doodles made with my friend's pens. I met all of them in school, it just so happened that we all liked art.
I also have a university friend who actually goes to art school, but we don't really talk about art a lot, at least I haven't shown her any of my things. I feel kinda self-conscious around "better" artists or just people who do art professionally, because I feel inferior as a hobby artist and fear they might judge me. But we did talk about conventions once and she gave me tips for if I ever have a stand at one, like what kind of art and products sell well :>
I also consider some of my very VERY close mutuals friends. There's one on instagram that I've been following almost for as long as I've had my account there, and while we don't chat super often, it always feels natural and we support each other a lot. Another one actually is one of my closest friends, we met in a random comment section on a post that wasnt even about art, and now we chat practically every day and sent each other birthday cards and everything. We just put in the effort to talk every other day and get to know each other better and boom, close friendship
