Composition approach
In the category of non-representational suburban abstract.

I have a few different approaches when creating an abstract composition. one idea is to take a natural emotional experience, and an unnatural control and process. I bring them together, and that drives that evolving image. This is just one approach that umbrellas different territories and concepts, it is the catalyst that fuels overall composition. Most of the time I'll start a composition not knowing what the final image is going to look like. At first I put in mind an emotion, a person, or even just a plain, word then combine it with the automatic drawing technique. I continue to make whatever line and shapes non-objectively until some kind of image starts to form. From there I try to help it grow. Since there's rarely a definitive picture I try to at least convey some emotional weight, something I keep in mind when creating a composition. Another idea I like to play with is the parodies between our physical and spiritual worlds. When making something like this I am hoping each viewer is able to come back later and discover something new. I try to make layers of how I interpret, and experience, the two worlds non-objectively. I hope that each viewer can find different ideas, creativity, and emotions in themselves through the composition. Which is the overall goal. I feel Most of my work comes from a subconscious place. So I think to myself, if it speaks to you the viewers subconscious, does that mean we have subconsciously communicated. One more process I use is through meditation. I usually there start there no matter which approach I use for the overall theme. I also like to play with different mediums and techniques to control the different aspects of composition, such as texture value contrast etc.Mar 31, 2023
