Dazed and Confused
#jjkoc : Name: Assata LaveauAge: 18
Nationality: American
Grade: Grade 2 (based off recommendations), semi-first grade in actuality
Height: 170.2 cm, 5’7”
Birthday: September 9, 2000 (Virgo)
Affiliation: The Lavaeu Family, Tokyo Jujutsu Metropolitan Technical College
Siblings: Camille Lavaeu (half-sister, 24)
Occupation: Part time student, full time plug
Cursed Technique: Dazed and Confused (Innate), Eyes of Horus and Ra (Paternal Family)
Technique Explained: Her innate technique, Dazed and Confused, causes those inflicted feelings of inebriation, confusion and euphoria. In layman’s terms, it makes them high. Depending on how much cursed energy she casts onto them, the inflicted can feel anything from a light buzz (read: tobacco/nicotine high) to severe paranoia and hallucinations (read: LSD, methamphetamine, PCP). Her technique is more precise when she is also high, so sometimes she’s seen smoking a joint during a mission or taking edibles prior to it. Her technique cannot work if the person inflicted is also inebriated.
The Eyes of Horus and Ra are less refined than her innate technique as it comes from her estranged father’s family, therefore she has been unable to understand the mechanics. From what she knows, they are a rare inherited technique, similar to the Six Eyes of the Gojo Clan and the Ten Shadow Technique of the Zenin Clan. The Eye of Horus, representing balance, allows her to heal herself and others, but it saps her significantly of cursed energy depending on how long she activates the Eye and how severe the injuries are. There have been two instances where the Eye of Horus triggered on its own when Assata was on the verge of death. After healing herself, she was in a coma for several days.
The Eye of Ra amplifies the effects of her cursed energy times three. The results of this can be catastrophic, as she’s been seen to lose control of herself in the process. It can strengthen the effect her cursed energy has if she channels it through objects, such as her bat. If activated while she’s using Dazed and Confused, the Eye can change the hallucinations into entire illusions that manipulate the space and organic materials around them, similar to an incomplete Domain Expansion. It can severally damage enemies mentally demanding on the illusion’s contents. Outsiders, unaffiliated by D&C, can also view the illusions.
Assata uses a baseball bat with nails in it to attack enemies after stunning them. The bat is wrapped in protective talismans from both her family and the college, which keeps it from breaking when she enhances it with cursed energy. Her skateboard is charmed by similar talismans.
Family: The Lavaeus are a matriarchal sorcery family based in New Orleans, Louisiana. They are one of three large exorcist families based in the United States. After the Meiji Restoration and World War II, Japanese Jujutsu Sorcerers began collaborating with cursed energy users worldwide. The Lavaeu family was one of the first they met from the US and occasionally send members to collaborate with the shamans there. Japanese exorcists sometimes come to Louisiana to oversee ceremonies, seeks consultations or assist with exorcisms, which is how Assata first met Gojo.
The Lavaeu family specializes in Louisiana and Haitian Voodoo. Rather than exorcising cursed spirits, they worship and pray to a few of them. Those spirits are known as the Loas. The Lavaeu family’s technique allows for them to summon forth specific Loas and, after meeting the conditions of the summoning, the Laos then possess their body. Depending on the situation, the Laos give knowledge and wisdom to the Laveau or they exorcise cursed spirits in combat. Possessions take a toll on the vessel’s body and they can die if the summoning was performed inappropriately or expend too much cursed energy.
Assata’s father’s family is unknown and, to her, nameless. From what she knows, her father is a member of a cult that worships the Egyptian Occult, specifically Set and Anubis. They are also cursed energy users, but they call it Heka instead, which is ancient Egyptian magic. Her father and mother had a secret affair resulting in her birth, but her father only did this in order to guarantee a vessel for Set’s cursed spirit. Her mother was a perfect catalyst because she’s rich with cursed energy of her own that’s similar to Heka. The Eyes of Horus and Ra, as well as Assata’s innate technique, are passed down from her father’s family.
Background: After a brutal incident between the Laveau family and her father’s family, Assata’s mother suggests that she go to Japan in her stead when Tokyo Jujutsu Metropolitan Technical College asks her to consult for a case. While staying there, Assata reacquaints herself with Gojo Satoru, who she hasn’t seen since she was a child. Gojo suggests that Assata extend her stay in Tokyo as an unofficial student so that she can learn to control the techniques inherited from her father’s family and their origins. And, as an exorcist, she can improve her ranking through recommendations from other shamans.
Personality: Assata is a blunt, easily irritated young woman with little patience. She struggled with anger issues and anxiety throughout middle and high school, so she started smoking weed at 15 to deal with it. If she befriends someone, she is loyal to a fault and emotionally available, but also brutally honest. She priorities planning, schedules and maintaining routines. Her personality type is ISTJ (76% introvert, 69% observant, 88% thinking, 89% judging). Moral alignment is Chaotic Neutral.
Fun facts:
- The tattoos on Assata’s chest are actually birthmarks. They’re the hieroglyphs for Set, God of Chaos, Disorder and Confusion.
- Assata’s father’s family believes that she is the incarnation for Set.
- Assata has not displayed any inherited cursed techniques from the Lavaeu family, who specialize in Louisiana and Haitian Voodoo
- Assata is a descendant of Marie Lavaeu, the Queen of Voodoo
- Assata secretly grows marijuana in her closet at Jujutsu Tech
- Assata is a drug dealer, but only for weed. Fushiguro Megumi is Assata’s top client followed by Inumaki Toge.
- Assata couldn’t stand Kugisaaki Nobara at first after seeing her Straw Doll Technique (Voodoo is a closed practice), but grew to appreciate her like her more after seeing Nobara pay homage.
- Assata speaks English, French, Haitian Creole, Louisiana Creole, Spanish and Japanese. Her family requires that each generation know multiple languages.Apr 15, 2021
