Au where the captain and knight lived differently, Maxwell worked as a servant and the knight is a crown prince. The prince took an interest in his one eyed servant because they looked unique and as a result, treated Maxwell differently from the other servants. Some say they're the prince's favorite servant. Some say the servant is overworked by the prince.
The servant Maxwell doesn't care about what others think though, they're just a mere servant after all and has assumed the prince has put all his trust in them. The prince on the other hand thinks the servant is something more to him.
