Dr. Beruga - our Lord and saviour...
Happy 28th anniversary, Terranigma! May the fans and creators, wherever you people live, have a great day. Still hoping for a remake - maybe it’ll work out on the Switch 2?
What a good excuse to finally make this piece. I’ve wanted to draw Dr. Beruga, one of the villains, for quite a while now! He’s definitely one of my favourite JRPG villains, and I wish more people made fanart of him. While I think his design looks a bit goofy, he’s also frighteningly realistic for a JRPG villain, and a perversion of the ideal of human progress. I’m not going to throw around spoilers here, but I like to think of him as an Anti-Ark - he does want to save humanity, in his own twisted way…
I chose to draw this in ink because I was inspired by all the amazing pieces others made for Inktober, many of which are monochrome ink drawings. Plus I wanted to play around with textures and hatching, which I did at a drawing class I took last month. I wanted to create a creepy atmosphere, kinda Junji Ito-like. My favourite parts are Beruga’s cheekbones!
So: Happy Hero‘s Easter!
