What’s your favorite obscure/underrated animated movie? 
( Ghibli is great but does NOT count unless it’s something super obscure)
I’ll go first:
- Kung fu panda 2 (not obscure by any means but severely underrated, the art in this movie is amazing and Lord Shen is the owner of my heart)
- a monster in Paris
- the secret of kells
- song of the sea
- wolfwalkers
- welcome to the space show ( I’ve literally never heard anyone else mention this movie, it was so bizarre. I saw it at a film festival at the Detroit art institute when I was like,,, 10? And I remember it VIVIDLY)
- the last unicorn
- the secret of nimh
- a cat in Paris
- the entire Laika collection with the exception of the Missing Link, yeti/bigfoot movies are ASS and I will not elaborate on that May 3, 2021

Uhm I’m not totally sure how well known this animation is but: I lost my body.
I don’t usually watch animation (altho I love it so much) and just randomly found this one on Netflix. I cried so much and I’m not sure if I will ever find a movie so beautiful with a concept that spoke to me so much ever again.

You’ve already mentioned Secret of Nimh so I’ll offer the obscure animated movie that still scars me to this day, “Plague Dogs”.
But it’s. So, so good. Heartbreaking to watch, but just one of my favorites.

the lasT unicorn. omg i remember watching that movie as a kid and it always has a soft spot in my heart. it’s so well animated and beautiful.

idk if it's underrated, but i love anthem of the heart. makes me cry every time. very few movies or shows can do that to me.

Night on the Galactic Railroad (nokto de la galaksia fervojo), it's amazing. Best Japanese animated film I know.

The first half of the Astroboy movie is so well done. Then it gets Americanized from there so i just stop it after thay point.

The Adventures of TinTin is one of mine. Love how the animators translated Herge’s simplistic art style into a realistic adaptation yet kept in touch with the characters portrayals and appearances. Plus, the visual effects are stunning and the scene transitions give me chills.

There’s a Chicken Little movie that I saw when I was little and it still slaps to this day

Probably “the summer wars”, I’ve never met a single person who knew what it was before I showed it to them. Which is sad because I like it a lot.

That mf was my new favorite villain and the first one was fucken Tai Lung so you can't really blame me for that
Also like Paranorman and Frankenvinnie (might be spelling it wrong)
Both are pretty decent movies but but I've never seen them get any recognition, true they're a bit old (for movies today)
Isle of Dogs
Fantastic Mister Fox, both by Wess Anderson and are weirdly more teen and y/a movies than for kids
I remember seeing a short 20-30min movie about a puffin and I think a duck that got left behind by their families as they were going to move south for the winter but had to survive through that
The Cat Returns (yes it's a studio Ghibli but I've honestly never seen it be discussed anywhere and I found it actually really weird the first time I watched it
