Mip passed this afternoon.

She started declining pretty quickly and just wanted to sleep. She liked being held and wrapped up in a warm towel, so I bundled her up and walked outside in the yard so she could see the outside world just once. She fell asleep in my hands, snuggly and warm and passed away.
I buried her out in the yard by the corn fields under a big flowering bush.

I caught the cocci in time though, so the rest of the chicks are doing really well. They're very peppy and happy and robust, growing really fast now. They're getting medicine for the next 4 days or so and then I'm going to put them on a better feed that will help them fend off future bouts of cocci.
Mip was tiny even when I first got her, so I think she was already vulnerable to getting sick. Still breaks my heart.

I had a lot of animals growing up, but this is the first time I've had my own animals. Animals I worked hard for and bought with my own money and have been raising and caring for (yeah I have a fish tank... But it's not quite the same as a creature that can bond to you).
Mip passing has made me meditate on life and death and the value of it all.
Life is valuable and precious, and our time on earth only lasts but a little. I think about how much my God cares for the little creatures and how much more he must care for me.

Matthew 6:26
Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?
Matthew 10:29-30
Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; n you are of more value than many sparrows.

As a Christian, I believe one of my responsibilities on this earth is to care for and nurture the earth and the animals within it. I love animals. And I'll continue to take care of my little chickens to the best of my ability.

Chickie updates will probably be less frequent for a while, losing Mip was just too sad

Ohhh no :(. I am so sorry! You did the best you could and it sounds like she died peacfully. You cared so much for your little chickens I am sure she noticed that in the short time she was with you <3
I'm sorry to hear that. Baby chicks are often very vulnerable and sometimes even if you do everything right and give them all the care they need they just may not survive. I'm sure she was as comfortable as she could until the very end.
awe God bless your heart 😭♥️ losing chickens is so hard, I can’t imagine a chick, yet God used your sadness and turned it into something special and important. i’m praying for you and the rest of your little birdies♥️

I’m so sorry to hear that, and about Mip of all chicks…having raised chicks myself I understand that those losses cut deep. But I’m thankful she was in your care, of all people. You were good to her during her short time on this earth 🫂
Sorry to hear about your chick, may she rest in peace
