Lightbulb rage
The story is entirely unrelated to the doodle lol——-
Caspian threw a lightbulb, and Russel smashed it with his bat midair. Rage festered in his eyes, but not rage for Caspian. Caspian took another sip of soda and tossed another lightbulb. Russel struck it with violent force, nothing that Caspian would want to be at the other end of.
One of the shards grazed Russel’s cheek, and beads of blood formed along the cut. Caspian didn’t ask about it, though he did wince. Russel had made it clear before that he was not to be pitied for anything when he was mad, and Caspian understood it as part of the process. He’d get the first aid kit later.
Every lightbulb in the box was met with Russel’s undulated fury. They had only two left when Russel began to calm down.
Caspian cupped Russel’s cheek. The blood from his injury smeared over Caspian’s fingers.
“Is it bad?” Russel asked, grumbling.
“It’s thin, you just have a lot of blood in your face in general,” Caspian replied. He wanted to kiss the cheek that wasn’t bleeding, but Russel hadn’t made any indication he would permit it. Touching him was such a complicated thing, kissing even more so.
Caspian moved his hand away, and Russel looked at the blood left on Caspian’s fingers.
Russel dropped the bat on the ground amongst the shards of glass and lightbulb parts. “Right. Let’s get the bandaids.”
The rage had certainly died down, Caspian supposed. He fetched the first aid kit from the bathroom, and Russel allowed him to clean up the wound with disinfectant.
“You would make a good baseball batter, y’know. Your hand-eye coordination and aim is the best I’ve ever seen,” Caspian commented.
Russel frowned. “It’s too late for that now.”
“Maybe it is.” Caspian squeezed some Neosporin onto a bandaid. “Maybe it isn’t.” He smoothed the bandaid over the cut.
Russel tilted his head into Caspian’s hand in silent permission. Caspian pressed a gentle kiss to Russel’s lips. He was careful of everything, he didn’t push it. It was so brief, but Caspian didn’t protest when Russel pulled away.
“How are you feeling?”
Russel shrugged. “Better, I guess.”
“That’s good.”
Caspian slipped his hand away and took a step back.
“So, what do you want to do now?”
Russel looked out at the back porch. “I guess it would be the responsible thing to clean up the glass.”Aug 28, 2021
