I make fanart because I want to, not because it's a cheat sheet for followers.

I also strongly disagree that it kills creativity. Doing fanart has nothing to do with creativity.
It's as equal as doing original artwork.

I just think people overreact to things they dont like.
If you think about it, all the images of Jesus are fanarts
"illegal" 🤣 all of those statements are dumb and wrong tbh except sometimes the first one, that's only kind of true if it's fan art of something really popular/trendy but still, getting followers isn't guaranteed. Idk why but a lot of people seem to not consider that fan art can be of anything, not necessarily something popular? Also not all fan art is a copy of the original??? Like a lot of times people come up with their own ideas that are just based on something or utilize a character or something, it's not an exact copy and sometimes it's not even explicitly fan art because of how much they put their own spin on it.
as someone who pretty much only draws fanart i highkey hate it when people say we only do it for quick clout >:( i love drawing fanart because it lets me express my love for the characters and series i adore getting useless internet points is the least of my worries when i'm simping for my 2d husbandos
WHY WOULD THEY SAY THAT-- fanart is great, it's the reason I even started watching/reading things I now love, it's fun to draw, it's a good way to find other people in the same fandoms, it's fucking FUN!!! Fanart is great
I think people overreact. Fanart is art just like any other art, it's not a magic way to get followers or "cheat". If you have good art, you have good art, and it doesn't matter what you draw. If your art is still developing then you likely won't get followers even if you draw nothing but fanart.
At least for me, fanart barely got new followers ether. Most people would just like the post and scroll to the next fanart in the tag.
Legally speaking, in the U.S. it’s only against the law if you sell it. I don’t know about other countries, copyright law is different in Japan, for example. But I don’t know how different.
