I can't be sure if you mix these colors by yourself from the primary colors, but if you don't, experiment with the warm and cool primary colors; red, blue and yellow (+ black and white).
Purple for example looks different if you mix cool red with cool blue or warm red with warm blue etc. Mixing black with yellow creates an olive green color.
I'm still learning as well but just experiment with mixing colors together :))

work darkest to lightest, its easier to build up the lighter colors and also wait a lil so everything can dry and not blend. ooohh also i use a marker to sketch everything it easier to cover up with paint than a color pencil or a normal pencil.
